KC-ASTD: Busy Serving Up Success in Troubled Times

Whether you are gainfully employed or searching for a job right now, KC-ASTD is the place to be. Of course, we provide the traditional opportunities to network with other learning professionals and networking is crucial in times like these. (Read more about the value of networking.) But, we also provide SO much more.  Read on in this newsletter to learn about:

  • Top-notch meetings designed to keep you on the cutting edge of workplace learning
  • Brownbag classes that offer more intensive and focused training on basic skills
  • CPLP study groups forming soon -- and their amazing success
  • Peers who passed the CPLP on their first attempt

 Monthly Meetings: Never Better

Evaluations continue to tell us that we are hitting the mark on monthly meeting content and quality. Dawn Maxwell and team search continuously for relevant content that will be delivered with excellence. Check www.KCASTD.org regularly for the latest info on topics and locations.  Remember to register in advance.  In exchange for a small fee ($15 members; $25 guests), you will receive food for body and mind.

Learning: When a "push" is not enough

In our excitement over learning, we sometimes forget that the targets of our training do not share our zeal for the  learning experience. Or, even if they want to learn, their needs are broader than we expect.  Read this article to refresh yourself on ways to enhance the attraction and effectiveness of the opportunities you offer.

Pursuing Your CPLP?

Study group -- with impeccable track record -- to launch in July.

KC-ASTD Chapter’s CPLP Study Group. To date, every participant who has taken the exam has passed. One of our success stories is featured below.

The study group will meet for 11 facilitated sessions beginning Monday, July 13. Sessions meet every Monday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

The CPLP Study Group provides a venue for those seeking to broaden their base of knowledge and understanding of core Workplace Learning and Performance (WLP) competencies. It reviews material related to each core competency.  The Study Sessions are facilitated by local members of the KC-ASTD Chapter with professional experience in their area of expertise. A number of the facilitators are preparing to take (or have taken) the exam themselves.
The registration fee is $75 for KC-ASTD Chapter members, $175 for non-members. The non-member fee INCLUDES a 1-year membership to KC-ASTD. Click here to register for the group beginning in July.
Other costs: We highly recommended that participants purchase the ASTD Learning System. The Chapter is unable to provide these for loan. ASTD Learning Systems can be ordered directly from ASTD. Please use the chapter’s CHIPs number—CH6027—when ordering.
